DrinkStreet.com -> Drink Recipe: Amaretto Sour Jello Shots
We made some of these for our New Year's Eve gathering. We slightly modified the recipe to not use the lemon juice. We used Cherry Jello and Amaretto and just used 6 Oz of water instead of 5 Oz.
We also made some Fuzzy Navel shots (Orange Jello and Peach Schnapps) and, inspired, I invented a Cosmopolitan Jello Shot.
6 Oz. Cranberry Jello
16 Oz. Water (Boiling)
8 Oz. Water (Cold)
6 Oz. Orange Curaco
2 Oz. Citrus Vodka
Then follow the recipe as above. Yum!
touch of ginger :: browse wallet essentials
This site has a collection of what it calls wallet essentials. Basically they are credit-card-sized items which contain objects which can be punched out (and in some cases assembled) and used for everyday functions. Many are for "emergency" use such as replacement buttons or collar stays. Others are just convienent in that they are an object you might already carry (like a comb) but are in a form factor that will fit in your wallet.
It's an interesting concept. I'm not sure what materials are involved but my first impression is that it's a little pricey to be successful. Perhaps if they sold them as promo items to be branded and then given away at trade shows and the like they might take off. But selling one or two to an individual consumer....not so much.
how-to record on your ipod (for free) - ipod hacks - ipod.hackaday.com
This site explains how to do high quality recording with your iPod.
This seems like somethng that apple should enable as default function but they are usually so far in the content producers camp that, despite the fact that there are a million legitimate uses for this feature, they would justify not doing it because someone might sneak one into a concert or something.
On the other hand I love the Internet because as long as there are stupid things like DRM there will be folks out there who figure out ways around it and share that info with as many people as they can.
I love these sneaks! I want a pair.
Note to self: do not wear these when comitting serial murders, too easy to track down. Thanks CSI!
Straight Dope Staff Report: Why do we have so many temperature scales?
I actually found this pretty interesting. But I am a pretty big science geek.
Sensory Impact: The Culture of Objects - Interview with Kaden Harris
This guy is too cool. I have blogged his site before on the MonkeyBoard but this was an interview with him. His new HypnoDisc sounds really retro and kitchy. There is also a link to his site Eccentric Genius.
This guy made it so you would get a notification everytime it changed where the package was. Cool.
The Wired Jester :: Entering the Ossuary: Human Chalice
This is a link to a blog with pictures from an Ossuary (tomb) in Prague. The way they have built decorations and chandeliers from the human remains is wild.
The author of this essay just got a deal to do a book about the subject. I think it's required reading for anyone trying to come up with new internet business models. It's very compelling.
Free killer apps for your HTPC..... - AVS Forum
This is a list from a forum guy at the AVS forums about his killer apps for the Home Theatre PC. Interesting info.
You can take this software and output a paper model from a 3-D model file. The demo doesn't let you save but you can print the model out. Very cool.
From the site:"THE PROJECT
In 2005, Basic Hip Digital Oddio will feature an entire year of albums from the golden age of kiddie records, lovingly transferred from the original 78s and encoded to 192kbps MP3 format. That's one a week for 52 weeks!"
Paladins by Joel Rosenberg - Baen Books
This looks like a great new series by Joel Rosenberg. The Baen Books site at the link has the first 6 chapters online. I love Joel's Guardian of the Flame series. I just picked up the last two the other night. It's a series that really grew from it's unpretentious beginnings. I hope this new series will be as good.
I love Baen books because they put entire books from their authors online for free and put chapters of their new books online for fans to see before they drop $24 on a hardcover.
Straight Dope Staff Report: Why don't fish crash into the side of the fishbowl?
I love The Straight Dope. I check it every day. THis one talks about why fish don't bonk into the side of the fishbowl.
Pierced Eyeglasses [The Publishers Ring]
This guy has his eyeglasses uspended from a bridge piercing rather than having them have arms to sit on his ears. Wierd but kinda cool.
